Tadpole Level
This is the first step within the UDASC teaching structure. Swimmers
may be accepted into this squad after successful completion of a taster
session. The squad aim is to develop water skills and stroke technique
and to introduce aerobic endurance. Educational fun should be part of this
squad programme. Swimmers are encouraged to attend Club Nights and Time Trials
as part of their development and may be introduced to competitive swimming as
part of the UDASC team at friendly meets. Swimmers in this squad are
usually aged 7 to 9 years.
Promotion Criteria to Dolphin Level
- Push & Glide with streamlined hands/arms/head on front/back
- Push & Glide with Kick to surface as above to 5m
- Streamlined Dive from poolside
- Demonstrate 3 sculls (on back: head first, feet first, stationary)
- Fr/Bk flip turns with no head lift on approach
- Swim 50m Fr & Bk with correct technique/legal finish
- on back for backstroke
- Attempt 50m of Br with correct technique/legal
turns/finish (two hand touch)
- Timed Fr kick (with float 50m with continuous steady pace)
- Attempt 100m of choice stroke in good technique
- Continuous 5 minute swim
- distance swum logged and dated
